Welcome to the website of the Marshall Symphony Orchestra. We are most excited as the Board of Directors and the Marshall community celebrate the 60th Birthday of the Marshall Symphony. On Wednesday, September 7, 2011 please come and enjoy the tunes of “Dixieland on the Square”, downtown Marshall from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. featuring Dr. Jerry Payne, Bobby Cargile, David Hardin, Al Hobson, David Kimball, Carl “Bill” Pampe and Anthony Robinson. Sack lunches are provided by the Marshall Symphony League for $5.00. Symphony Orchestra members will performing throughout the Marshall community this year through a new program called “Meet Your Orchestra“. The first performance will be on Thursday, September 8, 2011 beginning at 6:00 p.m. at Central Perks Restaurant on North Washington. The Symphony will feature ”The Festival String Quartet” which includes our own, Maestro Leonard Kacenjar, Mary Eileen Grant, Zackery Grant and Pam Martin. Each month a new member of the orchestra will be featured. Both of the above performances are free concerts.
Last year’s season offered a wide diversity of orchestral performance and community entertainment. This year once again offers an exciting year of the finest in symphonic repertoire. Maestro Leonard Kacenjar celebrates his 36th season as our conductor. We find it rewarding to motivate new listeners and to be supported by individual and corporate sponsors of the MSO. Our season theme, “Celebrating 60 Years of Musical Magic ~ The Diamond Jubliee” begins on September 17th with a fun filled return performance by Jeans ‘N Classics performing “It Came from the Jersey Shore”, the music of Frankie Valli, Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi.
Our November 16, 2011 concert will again feature young “Texas Strings” and be dedicated “In Memory of Marjorie Perkins“. Our final concert on February 20, 2012 will feature soprano Icy Simpson and baritone, Kerone Jackson ”In Memory of Dr. Shirley Handler”. We are gratefully indebted to the work and support of the Symphony Society, the Symphony League and the Marshall Regional Arts Council. We are one of the smallest cities in Texas to have a professional symphony orchestra. Special thanks to the City of Marshall and our Patrons that continue to support our very talented orchestra. Thank you Marshall and all of you supporting our orchestra.
